LADY BUDS WIN WOMEN'S TEAM RACE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
April 30, 2018
BOSTON -- The Lady BUDS have won the first-ever ICSA Women's Team Racing National Championship!
The Boston University women took down six other teams -- Yale, Brown, MIT, USF, Dartmouth, and Tufts -- en route to a 12-6 record and the national title. They became the first all-female team racing national champions and added a fifth national title to BU's legacy.
The Women's Team Racing National Championship was added to the collegiate sailing circuit this year after the quick growth of women's team racing across NEISA and, at a lesser rate, the other conferences making up the ICSA. Our Charles River neighbors MIT hosted the inaugural event in their fleet of Turbo FJs.
Sailing for Boston University were skippers Lydia Grasberger ('18), Maia Agerup ('20), and Allie Cahn ('20) with their respective crews Meri Harrington ('18), Caroline Salas ('18), and Hannah Davis ('19). Lydia and Meri added another impressive achievement to their résumés after winning B-Division at the Sperry Women's National Championship in 2016.
Our focus turns now to the 2018 Women's and Coed Dinghy Championships, to be held at Old Dominion University at the end of May. Rah BUDS!
