After three months off the water, the BUDS are ready to get back into some sailing this fall! The BUDS have gone through many changes since last May: competing in Women's 2025 College Sailing Nationals in Maryland, graduating our class of 2025, and welcoming the class of 2029. We also just completed five days of preseason, shaking the rust off our returning sailors while beginning to integrate some new faces.

Women's College Nationals:
Last spring, we sent eight women to St. Mary's, Maryland, to race among seventeen other collegiate teams to compete for the title of national champion. During semi-finals, the Lady-BUDS sailed a total of eighteen races split between the A and B fleets. Conditions were difficult with light, shifty, unpredictable wind. After two days of racing, our team was in fourteenth, unfortunately missing the ninth-place cut-off for finals.
The Woman sent to nationals left with many lessons learned and countless memories of their time with each other. We also saw some phenomenal final performances from our graduating sailors: Tiare Sierra, Lucy Paskoff, and Joy Kim. Though our time at Nationals was brief, the hundreds of hours of practice and conditioning put towards those two days has caused immense improvement for all of our sailors. We intend to continue this momentum into our current season, continuing to push ourselves in every aspect.
Fall 2025:
We are currently registered for twenty-five regattas during our eight weeks of fall regattas. Four of which are being hosted by our team. Our current regatta schedule, along with weekly updates, can be found on our website and social media. This fall also marks our first full season with our head coach, Carter Brock, who has been working around the clock to make this season a success for the BUDS. We are also welcoming back Andrew Reed as our new Graduate Assistant Coach. Andrew sailed both as a skipper and crew on the team for four years and was a part of the 2018 graduating class. Several new sailors have also joined the BUDS this year, including the class of 2029 Freshmen. With our new members, we are expecting to get between ten to thirteen boats at our practices. This will allow for the most productive practices we have had in recent years.

Preseason:
To kick off the season, we had a five-day preseason before the first day of school. We saw both returning sailors, along with some of our newer faces, back on the Charles for the first time since the spring. Each morning began with a morning run and conditioning led by our team captains, followed by a single or double sailing session. We had familiar Charles conditions (meaning very unpredictable), encompassing a variety of wind strengths and directions. Preseason also cultivated new relationships between our sailors as we spent many of our evenings together at team dinners or in the park playing yard games. Preseason has created a phenomenal foundation for us to build off of throughout this year.
After a memorable nationals, a summer away, and a week back together, the BUDS are ready to get back into the swing of things. As always, we hope you will be right there with us watching the action in this next chapter for the BUDS.
